About Menzies Creek
Menzies Creek is a town in the Dandenong Ranges about 40 km east of Melbourne, spanning the Shire of Cardinia and the Yarra Ranges. Named after James Menzies, a gold digger of the 1860s, it grew from gold workings, timber-getting and selection. The town is best known for its railway station on the Puffing Billy scenic railway, opened on the narrow-gauge Gembrook line in 1900 and today a busy crossing point where trains pass, with a narrow-gauge railway museum and tearooms nearby.
