About Gruyere

Gruyere is a town in the Yarra Valley of Victoria, about 43 kilometres north-east of central Melbourne, within the Shire of Yarra Ranges. Named after the Swiss cheese, reflecting the district's history in the dairy industry, it grew as a farming area with orchards, cattle and dairy herds. The name was suggested by a local wine-grower, and Gruyere is now part of the Yarra Valley wine region, home to acclaimed vineyards such as Yarra Yering.
