About Kangaroo Ground
Kangaroo Ground is a town in the Shire of Nillumbik in Victoria, 26 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, named for the kangaroo grass and abundant kangaroos of the area before settlement. Its most prominent landmark is the War Memorial Tower, built of local sandstone and opened in 1926 on the highest point in the district to commemorate residents who died in the First and Second World Wars, later also serving as a fire-spotting tower.
