About Windsor (Vic.)
Windsor is an inner suburb of Melbourne about 5 km south-east of the central city, on the boundary of the Cities of Port Phillip and Stonnington, with the shopping strip of Chapel Street running through it. Known as Prahran South until 1891, it was renamed after Windsor in England, and its housing ranges from Victorian terraces to medium-density apartments. Windsor was the home of the chemist George Nicholas, who invented the painkiller Aspro here, and the National Institute of Circus Arts is based in the suburb.
