About St Kilda East

St Kilda East is a suburb of Melbourne about 6 km south-east of the central business district, in the city's inner south. Settled from the 1850s on Boonwurrung land, it developed Victorian and Edwardian streetscapes that are now protected heritage precincts, and Alma Park, laid out in 1867, forms its heart. The suburb is the centre of Melbourne's Chabad community, with the Yeshiva Centre headquarters and synagogues along its main streets, and the St Kilda Cemetery at its edge holds the graves of prime minister Alfred Deakin and Victoria Cross recipient Albert Jacka.
