About Albert Park (Vic.)
Albert Park is an inner-city suburb of Melbourne, south of the CBD on Port Phillip Bay, named for Albert Park, the lakeside park laid out around it. The park, named in 1864 after Queen Victoria's consort Prince Albert, hosts the Australian Grand Prix on its street circuit and is ringed by sporting venues including Lakeside Stadium and the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. The suburb retains Victorian-era terraces around the St Vincent Gardens square.
