About Southbank
Southbank is an inner-city suburb of Melbourne on the south bank of the Yarra River, about 1 km from the central business district, which lies directly opposite. Formerly an industrial area of South Melbourne, it was redeveloped from the early 1990s into a high-rise residential and business district along the Southbank Promenade, and is home to Crown Casino, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, and the Eureka Tower. The neighbouring Arts Precinct along St Kilda Road holds the National Gallery of Victoria and the Arts Centre, and heritage buildings include Victoria Barracks and the former Castlemaine Brewery.
