About Selwyn (Vic.)

Selwyn is a locality in the Alpine Shire of north-eastern Victoria, in the high country of the Victorian Alps around the upper West Branch of the Ovens River. It was a gold-mining district in the late 1800s and early 1900s; the heritage-listed Gun Reef Gold Battery Sites preserve the remains of stamping batteries, water races, a Pelton wheel and a tramway dating from mining operations between 1896 and 1917. The area is now remote, forested mountain country with little permanent settlement.
