About Mitta Mitta

Mitta Mitta is a town in the Mitta Mitta Valley on the Omeo Highway in north-eastern Victoria, at the foothills of the Great Dividing Range where the Mitta Mitta River meets Snowy Creek, about 18 km from Mount Bogong, Victoria's highest mountain. Gold was prospected along the river from 1852, and the township allotments were surveyed and sold in 1865. The town is a base for trout fishing, white-water rafting and canoeing, and the heritage-listed Pioneer Mine nearby is regarded as one of the best examples of hydraulic sluicing in Australia.
