About Locksley (Vic.)
Locksley is a rural locality on the Longwood to Avenel Road in the Shire of Strathbogie, about 152 km north of Melbourne. Originally known as Burnt Creek, it was named after Tennyson's poem 'Locksley Hall'. The area was once part of Henry Kent Hughes' Avenel pastoral run, served a Cobb and Co coaching route on the Sydney to Melbourne road, and its railway station, opened in 1882, stood amid up to five sawmills.
