About Kilmore East
Kilmore East is a locality in the Shire of Mitchell in Victoria, about 65 km north of Melbourne on the North East railway line. Squatters settled the district on the Kilmore Plains in the 1840s, and the railway station that gave the locality its name opened in 1872 as the Kilmore station before being renamed Kilmore East in 1888. A hilltop here was identified as the starting point of the Black Saturday bushfire of 7 February 2009, which devastated Wandong and Kinglake to the south-east.
