About Broadford

Broadford is a town in the Shire of Mitchell in central Victoria, about 73 kilometres north of Melbourne, lying on Sunday Creek beside the Hume Freeway and the main Melbourne to Sydney railway. Explorers Hume and Hovell camped beside the creek, which they named, in 1824, and the town was surveyed and gazetted in 1854. The railway arrived in 1872, gold was found in Sunday Creek in the 1860s, and a paper mill built in the 1890s has continued to shape the town's economy.
