About Eildon
Eildon is a town on the Goulburn Valley Highway in central Victoria, near the shores of Lake Eildon, in the Shire of Murrindindi. The name was given in 1846 by early settlers Mr and Mrs Archibald Thom, who found the district reminiscent of the Eildon Hills in Scotland. The modern town grew out of the construction of the Sugarloaf Dam, completed in 1929, and the much larger Eildon Dam built between 1951 and 1956, which required thousands of workers and saw the township relocated to its present site.
