Belmont is a primarily residential suburb on elevated ground overlooking the Barwon River valley, with a commercial centre along High Street, Geelong's largest strip shopping precinct. The low-lying Belmont Common follows the river's eastern bank and contains sports grounds and open space. Waurn Ponds Creek forms the southern boundary.
