About Grovedale
Grovedale sits on gently undulating hills of volcanic basalt soil, which in the 19th century supported orchards and vineyards that made it Victoria's largest wine-producing region before phylloxera struck. Originally known as Germantown, it was Victoria's earliest German Lutheran settlement, a history still evident in its heritage-listed German Cottage. The suburb lies along the Surf Coast Highway about 7 km south-west of the Geelong CBD.
