About Wehla
Wehla is a small rural locality in the Shire of Loddon in northern Victoria, on the broad flat plains of the Loddon Valley. The name is a Djadjawurrung word meaning white possum, and the area was originally called Jericho before being renamed in 1869. Wehla sits within the historic goldfields belt, with multiple heritage-listed mining sites including Chinese Diggings and the Prince of Wales Open Cut, and the Wehla Nature Conservation Reserve protects local habitat.
