About Burkes Flat
Burkes Flat is a locality in the Shire of Loddon in central Victoria, about 25 km west of St Arnaud. Gold was discovered here in 1858, and the Burkes Flat Gold Mine, worked from 1860 to 1884, produced more than 1500 kilograms of gold, placing it among the top few per cent of reef gold producers in Victoria. The Burkes Flat Gold Mining Company site is heritage-listed.
