About McIntyre
McIntyre is a rural locality in the Shire of Loddon in central Victoria, about 15 kilometres from Maryborough and 175 kilometres from Melbourne. The area is part of the Victorian goldfields, where McIntyre's Wet Diggings were active from 1853 and produced major nugget finds including a 1,068-ounce specimen discovered near Matrix Reef in 1857. Today the landscape features open farmland and grazing properties on the goldfields fringe, with Orville Creek running through the locality.
