About Tarnagulla
Tarnagulla is a town in the Shire of Loddon in central Victoria, named by Polish explorer Paweł Strzelecki after the Polish word Czarnogóra, meaning Black Mountain. The district began as a pastoral station in the 1840s, and gold discovered nearby in 1852 drew more than 5,000 miners to the diggings, originally known as Sandy Creek. The settlement was renamed Tarnagulla in 1860.
