About Waanyarra
Waanyarra is a former gold-mining township in the Green Valley Ranges of central Victoria, about 45 km south-west of Bendigo, now within the Dunolly State Forest. Gold was discovered beside Jones Creek in 1853, and the rush made the field famous for its large alluvial nuggets and gold of exceptional purity, with a last flurry in 1903. The restored stone Welcome Inn, the historic cemetery and traces of the old school mark the townsite.
