About Sandon (Vic.)

Sandon is a rural locality in the central Victorian goldfields, lying mostly in the Mount Alexander Shire with a section in the Shire of Hepburn, about 8 kilometres south of Newstead. Gold mining was carried out in the district from the gold rush era, and St Laurence O'Toole Catholic Church, whose services began in 1859, remains a local landmark. The surrounding country is now largely used for farming.
