About Yandoit
Yandoit is a small rural village in the Hepburn Shire of central Victoria, about 17 km north-west of Daylesford in the historic Victorian goldfields. The name is thought to derive from an Aboriginal word meaning travel. Gold was discovered in Nuggetty Gully in 1854, drawing thousands of diggers, and mining in the district continued until the First World War. Italian and Swiss-Italian settlers, who arrived from the 1850s, built many of the area's stone farm buildings, and Yandoit still serves the surrounding farming district with a school and historic churches.
