About Stony Creek (Central Goldfields - Vic.)

Stony Creek is a historic gold-mining locality in central Victoria, about seven kilometres south-west of Talbot on Dja Dja Wurrung Country. Gold was worked along the creek from the 1860s, and a rush in 1876 supported a small township and its school, opened in 1865. The Stony Creek School Reserve in the Talbot State Forest, listed on the Victorian Heritage Register, preserves the site of the old goldfields schoolhouse.
