About Smeaton
Smeaton is a small town in the Shire of Hepburn in central Victoria, about 30 km north of Ballarat. It was founded by Scottish pastoralist Captain John Hepburn, who named the district after the Smeaton estate near his birthplace in Scotland and built the heritage-listed Smeaton House in 1849. The town is best known for Anderson's Mill, a restored four-storey bluestone flour mill on Birch's Creek built in the 1860s, considered the finest surviving mill of its kind in Victoria.
