About Lawrence (Vic.)
Lawrence is a former gold-mining village about 13 km north of Creswick in central Victoria, on Birchs Creek at Wheeler's Bridge. It was one of four villages that grew around the deep lead gold mines of the 1870s Berry field, and is named after Lawrence Laurenson, an early discoverer of gold at Creswick in 1851. The Berry workings left numerous mullock heaps in the area.
