About Mount Clear
Mount Clear is a semi-rural suburb of Ballarat in Victoria, about 5 km south-east of the city centre, in the Canadian Creek valley. It grew out of the Ballarat gold diggings, and its school dates from 1858. From 1864 to 1915 it served as the seat of the former Buninyong Shire, and its name is said to come from the elevated, cleared site of the goldfields settlement.
