About Gong Gong

Gong Gong is a rural locality on the eastern fringe of Ballarat, mostly state forest surrounding the Gong Gong and Kirks reservoirs, which supply the city with water. The Gong Gong Reservoir, built in 1877 to replace Lake Wendouree as Ballarat's main water source, is now the focus of a reserve with bushwalks along the Yarrowee River, which rises in the hills here.
