About Ballarat East
Ballarat East is the oldest urban area in Ballarat, located 3 kilometres from the city centre. The site of many goldmines during the 1850s rush and the famous Eureka Rebellion, the suburb retains much of its historic character with winding streets and heritage-listed buildings dating from the 1860s to 1940s. Main Street was once the principal commercial area of the Ballarat district.
