About Ercildoune
Ercildoune is a locality in western Victoria, noted for the historic buildings and gardens of Ercildoune Homestead. The property was founded as a pastoral run in 1838 by Scottish-born brothers Thomas and Somerville Learmonth and developed into a centre of merino wool production with a reputation unsurpassed in colonial Victoria. The rambling Scottish Baronial style stone mansion was later owned by Sir Samuel Wilson and Sir Alan Currie. Ercildoune is regarded as one of the most historic and architecturally important homesteads in Victoria.
