About Burrumbeet
Burrumbeet is a rural village in western Victoria on the Western Highway, about 24 km west of Ballarat, on the northern shore of Lake Burrumbeet. The town takes its name from a pastoral run taken up by the Learmonth brothers in 1838, and from an Aboriginal word thought to mean muddy water. The large but shallow lake is a popular venue for boating, fishing and camping, and the village hosts a New Year's Day race meeting.
