About Cardigan Village
Cardigan Village is a small town on the north-western rural-urban fringe of Ballarat in Victoria. It was named after James Brudenell, the 7th Earl of Cardigan, who led the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War. The area stood on the traditional land of the Wadawurrung people, who travelled between Ballarat and Lake Burrumbeet on a seasonal path. A school, Presbyterian church, post office and hotel were recorded in the town in the early 1900s.
