About Bunkers Hill
Bunkers Hill is a locality on the southern rural fringe of the City of Ballarat in Victoria, formerly known as Kopke and Trunk Lead. It began as a gold rush settlement with diggings that opened around 1859. Greenhalgh's Tannery, founded in 1865, is one of the few vegetable tanneries left in Australia and the only one still using traditional methods such as wattle bark, while Sago Hill Mine is listed on the Victorian Heritage Inventory as a former mine shaft.
