About Bet Bet
Bet Bet is a rural locality and former gold-mining township on Bet Bet Creek, about eight kilometres south of Dunolly in the Central Goldfields region of Victoria. The name is thought to derive from an Aboriginal word meaning place of red ochre. The township grew up around a bridge on the Maryborough-Dunolly road, and the Shire of Bet Bet, which took its name from the locality, was merged into the Shire of Central Goldfields in 1995.
