About Cocata
Cocata is a rural locality on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula, in the Wudinna district. The area was taken up as pastoral country from the mid-1800s, and explorer John Charles Darke passed through on his 1844 expedition. The name comes from 'Cokata', the Aboriginal people who inhabited the land between Mount Wedge and the Gawler Ranges, and the Hundred of Cocata was created in 1928.
