About Stone Hut
Stone Hut is a small town in the Mid North of South Australia on the Horrocks Highway, midway between Laura and Wirrabara. Named after a stone hut built in the 1850s that served as a shepherd's shelter and later a Cobb & Co mail coach station, the town was surveyed in 1874 and became a grain-marshalling centre after the railway arrived in 1910. Notable landmarks include the Stone Hut Soldiers Memorial Hall (1926) and the historic Stone Hut Bakery.
