About Nelshaby
Nelshaby is a small rural locality in the Port Pirie Regional Council area of South Australia's Mid North region, about 8 to 10 kilometres east of Port Pirie. The name derives from an Aboriginal term meaning "boiling springs," first used by explorer Edward John Eyre in 1839. The Nelshaby Reservoir, built in 1879 to supply Port Pirie's first reticulated water, is now a 26-hectare recreation reserve and wildlife sanctuary with 95 bird species recorded, offering expansive views over the Southern Flinders Ranges.
