About Moonta Bay
Moonta Bay is a coastal town in the Copper Coast region of the northern Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, located 136 kilometres north-west of Adelaide and adjacent to the historic town of Moonta and Port Hughes. Established as a locality in 1999, the town was historically important for commercial fishing and abalone diving, both now in decline. The Moonta Bay jetty is popular for squid fishing, and the netted swimming area and beachside caravan park make it a major tourist destination, especially during January school holidays. The heritage-listed Rossiters Point Saltwater Intake and Pumping Station is a local landmark.
