About North Moonta
North Moonta is a small residential locality at the northern end of the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, immediately adjacent to the historic copper-mining town of Moonta. The area formed part of the expansive Moonta Mines settlement that developed following the discovery of copper in 1861, attracting thousands of Cornish immigrants. Heritage remnants including engine houses, tailings heaps and miners cottages contribute to the Moonta Mines State Heritage Area.
