Albert Park is an inner western suburb of Adelaide in the City of Charles Sturt, South Australia, located 8.9 kilometres northwest of the Adelaide central business district. Named for Prince Albert, Prince Consort to Queen Victoria, the suburb was laid out in 1877 by W.R. Cave. In 1920, aviator Harry Butler bought 60 acres and established Hendon Aerodrome, part of which was subdivided in 1921 becoming the suburb of Hendon. The aerodrome was compulsorily acquired by the Commonwealth in 1922 and operated until 1927 when aviation transferred to Parafield. Heritage advertising described it as having rich alluvial soil suitable for flower and market gardens with water at six feet. The Albert Park railway station is on the Grange railway line. Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and School is on Botting Street. Between 1940 and 1980 a branch railway ran from Albert Park to a station within the Hendon industrial area.
