Cheltenham is a western suburb of Adelaide in the City of Charles Sturt, South Australia, located 9.2 kilometres northwest of the Adelaide city centre. Established in 1849 and split in two by the Outer Harbor railway line, the suburb is historically significant as the site of the Holden Woodville Plant established in 1923 by Holden Motor Body Builders on a 23.5 acre site. The plant expanded to 40 acres by 1926 and at its peak employed 5,500 people, attracting many residents to the area through the 20th century before Holden progressively moved operations to Elizabeth, leading to the Woodville Plant closure. The Cheltenham Cemetery was established in 1876 between Port Road and Cheltenham Parade.
