About Tiaro
Tiaro is a rural town and locality in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, about 26 kilometres south-west of Maryborough on the Bruce Highway beside the Mary River. The name derives from a Kabi word believed to mean dead trees, and the broader Bauple and Tiaro district is recognised as the origin of the macadamia nut, first discovered in native trees in the area in 1858. One of Queensland's earliest butter factories operated here in the early 1880s, and the North Coast railway line passes through the town.
