About River Heads

River Heads is a coastal town and locality in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, on a small peninsula where the Mary River flows into the Great Sandy Strait. Set at the mouth of the river opposite Fraser Island (K'gari), it is the main departure point for ferries and barges carrying vehicles and passengers to the island. The elevated ridge running through the town offers sweeping views over the strait and the island.
