About Goomboorian
Goomboorian is a rural locality in the Gympie Region of Queensland, situated approximately 22.6 kilometres north-west of Gympie and 195 kilometres north of Brisbane. The name derives from an Aboriginal term meaning place of big trees, reflecting the area's historical abundance of large timber stands. Sawyers worked the Goomboorian forests from the 1870s before farm selections began in the early 1900s, and the locality today supports diverse agriculture including sheep, beef cattle, grain crops, fruit and tree nut growing.
