About Doongul
Doongul is a remote rural locality in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, located about 37 kilometres west of Maryborough and 297 kilometres north of Brisbane. Most of the locality is protected within Wongi National Park, Fairlies Knob National Park, and Wongi State Forest, featuring river flats, sandy and loamy plains, and granitic hills with peaks including Mount Doongul at 238 metres and Fairlies Knob at 323 metres. Formerly known as Muskat Flat and named from the Doongal pastoral run described in 1862, the Wongi area has significant forestry heritage dating to the 1860s as a major bullock team route, and Lenthalls Dam in the heart of the forest serves as the Fraser Coast water supply.
