About Ceratodus

Ceratodus is a rural locality in the North Burnett Region of Queensland, located about 10 kilometres north of Eidsvold and 412 kilometres north-northwest of Brisbane, situated on the Burnett River where the Nogo River joins. Named on 4 October 1923 after the Queensland lungfish, Neoceratodus forsteri, originally found only in the Burnett and Mary Rivers, the area features a relocated heritage railway station from the Mungar Junction to Monto line at the George Spencer Memorial Rest Area. The lungfish, a living fossil dating back over 100 million years, gave this place its distinctive scientific name.
