About Byrnestown

Byrnestown is a rural locality in the North Burnett Region of Queensland, near Gayndah on Wetheron Creek. In 1894 it was established as one of the first co-operative communes in Queensland, under the Co-operative Communities Land Settlement Act and named after Attorney-General Thomas Joseph Byrnes. The commune collapsed within two years and its land was divided among members, many of whom remained in the district as farmers.
