About Booie
Booie is a rural locality in the South Burnett Region of Queensland, about 12 kilometres north-east of Kingaroy. Its name is thought to come from an Aboriginal word describing a snake, after the pastoral station from which it was named. Selectors farmed the partly cleared hills from the early 1880s, a provisional school opened in 1892, and the public hall dates from about 1930. Since the 1990s Booie has become a focus of South Burnett gourmet tourism, with wineries, restaurants and bed-and-breakfast accommodation.
