About Charters Towers City

Charters Towers City is the central suburb and business district of Charters Towers in inland Queensland, known as Lissner until 2012. The suburb grew out of the gold rush of the 1880s, when Charters Towers became Queensland's second largest city, and today it holds many heritage-listed buildings, including the Stock Exchange Arcade, post office, courthouse and School of Mines along its historic main streets. Schools and colleges have operated here since the 1870s.
