Alligator Creek is a rural locality in the City of Townsville, Queensland, located 29 kilometres south-southeast of the Townsville central business district. Named after the creek that flows through the area, the traditional owners are the Bindal people. Shipwreck survivor James Morrill lived with the Bindal in the Mount Elliot region from 1846 to 1863. Bowling Green Bay National Park surrounds much of the area featuring Mount Elliot at 1,221 metres, Cockatoo Rock and The Sisters mountains. Alligator Creek Falls is a popular bushwalking destination. The historic Alligator Creek meatworks employed 1,500 people until 1966 and was served by a railway from 1915. The old coach road crossing of Alligator Creek 1.7 kilometres upstream from the current Bruce Highway bridge remained in regular use until the mid-1970s.
