About Darling Heights

Darling Heights is a rural residential locality in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia, situated approximately 5 kilometres south-southwest of the Toowoomba central business district and 132 kilometres west of Brisbane. The locality was named by the Queensland Place Names Board on 1 January 1966; it was originally proposed to be called College Heights to reflect the planned university college in the area, but was renamed Darling Heights when the institution was expected to be called the Darling Downs Institute of Technology. The institute later became the University of Southern Queensland in 1992, with its main campus located within the locality. Notable features include the 4.5-hectare Ju Raku En Japanese Garden, a traditionally designed Japanese stroll garden on the university campus, and Darling Heights State School, which opened in 1980.
